A child’s invitation to the Syrian boy photographed in an ambulance [video]

First came the heartbreaking photo from Aleppo, Syria, of 5-year-old Omran Daqneesh sitting stunned and covered by dust and blood in an ambulance, after being rescued from his bombed-out home.

After a 6-year-old American boy named Alex saw the photo, he sent a letter to President Obama, which the president read aloud to world leaders who convened September 20 in New York to talk about broadening their support of the 21 million refugees who have been displaced globally. “Those are the words of a 6-year-old boy. He teaches us a lot,” Obama said.

The White House video of Alex reading excerpts from his letter is being shared widely on the internet and by broadcast media. Here is the letter in full:
