On March 8 the Secretary’s Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State will host #DiasporaVoices, a live-streamed interactive video webchat for diaspora communities to engage with top diplomats.
The webcast will highlight the importance of promoting entrepreneurship in Africa, which is one of the best ways to boost Africa’s economic growth, spur development and reduce poverty. It will also help bridge diaspora initiatives with those of the U.S. government. The webcast is part of the office’s International Diaspora Engagement Alliance (IDEA) program.
Leaders from the State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs — including David Gilmour, U.S. ambassador to Togo — will host a question-and-answer session. Participants may tweet questions and comments before and during the chat, using the hashtag #DiasporaVoices.
Other panelists include:
- Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Peter H. Barlerin (moderator).
- Nigeria-based, social-impact entrepreneur Abisoye Ajayi.
- Public Affairs Officer Janet Deutsch, U.S. Embassy Zambia.
Learn how African diaspora groups can forge connections, coordinate resources, gain media exposure and more.
You can participate in the webchat on this page at 9:30 a.m. EST/14:30 UTC on March 8.
