Diaspora voices: Ukrainians and Armenians to share their stories

On September 8, 2016, the Secretary’s Office of Global Partnerships alongside its International diaspora Engagement Alliance (IdEA) program hosted #DiasporaVoices, a live-streamed interactive opportunity for diaspora communities to engage with top diplomats via social media, bridging their initiatives with those taking place within the the U.S. government, as well as highlighting the efforts of the International diaspora Engagement Alliance (IdEA).

Principle Deputy Assistant Secretary John Heffern from the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs; AMB Geoffrey Pyatt, U.S. Amb-designate to Greece; AMB Marie Yovanovitch, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine; and AMB Richard Mills, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia were featured during this first interactive chat session, addressing diaspora groups directly via a question and answer format. Participants tweeted their questions and comments before and during the chat with the hashtag #DiasporaVoices.

This interactive chat can help start a conversation on creative and successful ways diaspora can partner with the U.S. Department of State in creating connections, coordinating resources, collaborating on programs, gaining media exposure, and more. Diaspora communities provide a strong and valuable link between the U.S. and countries all over the world.
