What would we do without pollinators — the birds and the bees? Without them, we would not have the abundant fruits and vegetables that we enjoy.
Bats, butterflies and many insects also ensure that we have tomatoes, avocados, apples, peaches, berries, citrus and nuts to eat. Even chocolate depends on bats, which are essential to cacao tree reproduction.
But pollinators are under threat. Diseases, pesticides, habitat loss and other environmental factors are taking a significant toll on many species. Bees are especially hard hit.
You can help. If you have a garden, plant flowers and trees that attract hummingbirds, bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Don’t use dangerous pesticides.
And get the word out that we need to protect #pollinators.
