Finding refuge in the U.S.

For tens of thousands of the refugees escaping conflicts and persecution in their homelands, the often perilous journey eventually leads to the United States, where they can count on extensive help to start anew. But first, they apply for refugee status, which typically takes 18 to 24 months. Here’s a look at the steps along this journey.
