The number of governments enacting laws to protect the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people is on the rise.
Even so, “LGBTI persons continue to face the threat of violence and discrimination,” Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in a statement recognizing LGBTI Pride Month.
“Violence and discrimination targeting any vulnerable group undermines our collective security as well as American values,” said Tillerson. “When all persons are protected on the basis of equality and with dignity, global stability is strengthened.”
