The United States commemorates the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, which falls on May 8 and marks the surrender of Germany and the defeat of Nazism during World War II.
This is a time to remember those who perished in the Holocaust, to honor the soldiers who fought to defend the shared values of the trans-Atlantic alliance — freedom, human rights and the rule of law — and to salute the architects of the Marshall Plan, a massive U.S. program that rebuilt much of Europe.
