The Syrian regime’s horrific chemical attack on its own people continues to shock the world.

Bashar al-Assad of Syria agreed four years ago to the Chemical Weapons Convention, a treaty that bans use of chemical weapons and aims to rid the world of chemical weapons.

The April 4 chemical attack was not an isolated incident and presents a clear threat to the region and the world. “It’s important that some action be taken on behalf of the international community to make clear that the use of chemical weapons continues to be a violation of international norms,” Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson said.
