Since April 2017, Chinese authorities have detained more than 1 million members of Muslim minority groups and placed them in internment camps. Families and friends on social media, using the hashtag #MeTooUyghur, are demanding videos of their loved ones as proof of life.
The United States calls on China to free all those arbitrarily detained and end its repression of religious minorities. The Chinese government must also end policies that conflate terrorism or extremism with peaceful religious or political expression.
