A tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks

The Tribute in Light, a commemorative public art installation, shines into the sky over Manhattan on September 11, 2020, as New York marks the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The twin beams, which honor victims and first responders, dominate the Manhattan skyline for 24 hours as they shine from where the World Trade Center towers stood. Commemorations also took place at the Pentagon, in Northern Virginia near Washington, and at the Flight 93 National Memorial, near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. A total of 2,977 people were killed in the terrorist attacks.

The crews that worked on the installation took extra safety precautions due to the new coronavirus pandemic and tested the lights earlier in the week.
