President Obama’s second visit to India signifies America’s transformational relationship with one of the world’s great civilizations. During the president’s first trip to India in November 2010, the president and first lady Michelle Obama learned about the country’s history, culture and people. On January 26, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host Obama as an honored guest at Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.

In September 2014, Obama hosted Modi during his visit to the United States, where the leaders toured Washington. As a further sign of strong ties, in January 2015 Secretary of State John Kerry visited India, where he attended a global business summit.
