It’s official: White House unveils first lady’s portrait

First lady Melania Trump is no stranger to the camera. Before her 2005 marriage to future President Donald Trump, she was an international model, appearing on runways in her native Slovenia, Paris and New York as well as on the covers of such fashion magazines as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.

The White House has now released her official portrait, in which Trump is photographed in her new home, the White House.

The 47th first lady, who will celebrate her 47th birthday on April 26, shares the distinction of having been born outside the United States with only one other wife of a president (Louisa Adams, wife of John Quincy Adams). Melania Trump became a U.S. citizen in 2006. The Trumps’ son, Barron, is 11.

Melania Trump cares about issues affecting women and children and has focused on the problem of cyberbullying among youth. On March 29 she presented the secretary of state’s International Women of Courage Award to a dozen inspiring women.

“I am honored to serve in the role of first lady, and look forward to working on behalf of the American people over the coming years,” she said in a news release.
