Ryan: Oh, fun! I’m going to Michigan. I’m taking my camera because fall is coming fast. The leaves are already turning all shades of red and orange. It will be awesome.
Tyler: Next time you go there, I’ll join you. I’ve heard Michigan is a great place to go canoeing.

• Midterm（期中考试）：美国大学的期中考试通常是在10月份或3月份左右，这些考试在英语中叫做midterms。在学期末进行的考试叫做finals或者final exams（期末考试），通常在12月份和5月份举行。
• Gonna 是口语化的“I’m going to.”（我将要……）的说法。类似的结构还有 “wanna” [=want to，想要] ； “hafta” [=have to，不得不]。这些表达方式不宜用在正式场合的讲话中；文字中出现这样的用法往往是对口语的记述。如今有些类似的用法正出现在手机短信中，为的是节省字句。
• Awesome（绝顶了/太棒了）是口语中的常用说法，意为“excellent”（绝佳）； “cool” “（酷）；“great”（了不起）。例如：Last night’s rock concert was awesome.（昨晚的摇滚演唱会太棒了/真绝了。）
