蓬佩奥指出，对宗教自由的攻击遍及全世界，其中包括各种严重侵犯宗教自由的行为，例如中国共产党关押100多万占人口多数的维吾尔族穆斯林和其他少数民族，以及伊朗和北韩悍然无视宗教自由的行为等。
蓬佩奥最近在访问土耳其和格鲁吉亚期间会见当地领导人，指出宗教自由是众多合作的领域之一。
